Just talked with Gladys and found out that her mother continues to get weaker and worse. Pray for the family as they deal with her health.

Trinidad and Victor help Jose open one of the crates.

Ruth Erin helped by removing nails from crate lids so they could be safely stored for distribution.

One of the crates was specially built by Morris for some of the items. He bought the lumber, sawed it and nailed it up. I directed that that crate be disassembled and the lumber saved for future projects by Morris while he is there. Grandson Nathan enjoyed removing screws from the crate with a power drill.

A view of some of the crutches that were in the shipment to La Palma.

There is now a good supply of walkers, crutches, and canes in the med storage room at La Palma.

A lot happened in La Palma this week, as you have read in previous blogs. It is significant to see one of the results of the shipment--help for the handicapped in the region who cannot help themselves. Here you can see the wheelchairs that were stored as a result of the shipment. Many of those cannot get good ones like we throw away in our country. These will be very much appreciated.

Remembering Andrea from our trip in September 2008! She and her brother played together so well. She did not want to get back on the bus to go home.

Thursday, November 11, 2010

Lots happened today. The 18 crates were emptied and the contents stored for distribution. Little Andrea died today, so her suffering has ended. She lived longer than expected and fought a valiant fight for her life. We took her on a long bus ride in September 2008 so she could see the ocean. She enjoyed swimming and playing in the water so much! Her mother and grandmother have been good friends to us. I loved going to their cafe early in the morning when the other coffee shops were late to open. They had a large percolator and made really good coffee. We know she will be missed here, but she has been welcomed into heaven.

The crates arrived at the facility after 8 pm yesterday. They were unloaded and will be emptied tomorrow. It was a long day for the crews.

We take it for granted that a load of gravel will be delivered in a dump truck. In Ocotepeque the gravel is unloaded by men using shovels.

We need this reminder of the fact that people are dying - here and in El Salvador.

The new Ocotepeque church building can be seen from this photo, which was taken from the balcony of the hotel. The building is in the very center of the photo. It has a brick end and white sides and roof with 4 windows in the side.

Amy used a modified Pepsi bottle as a paint holder when we were in Honduras. It worked fine and cost very little.

These 18 crates were left at Little Rock AFB a couple weeks ago and are now at the military base in El Salvador. Wednesday two trucks are scheduled to take them 'up the hill' to La Palma for storage and/or distribution. Thanks to the USAID program called Denton program for the transportation to ES via USAF.

Our team worked really hard in September most of the time. Sometimes you need to kick back and relax, which we were doing in this photo.

The 18 crates we delivered to Little Rock Air Force Base were put on 3 large pallets for easier handling. They are now sitting on the Military Base in San Salvador, El Salvador and officials are working through the process of clearing them for release to our folks in La Palma.

When gasoline prices go up, we all realize that it is more expensive for us to go places. This taxi driver at the border between Honduras and El Salvador has few worries about gas prices, oil changes, car computer problems, etc.

In September our medical people worked to help the local folks. Dea and Mandy set up a clinic and had help from nurse Hiliana and translator Celia. They treated a lot of folks! And you only do that because you love others. (Because God first loved us!)
